Sleep Dentistry is a peaceful way to experience the dentist.

While traditional dental appointments can sometimes feel stressful, sleep dentistry offers a peaceful alternative for anxious patients.

IV sedation dentistry (AKA twilight sedation) gently eases you into a state of deep relaxation. You may even drift off to sleep during your procedure. This minimises discomfort and allows us to complete your treatment efficiently.

Sleep dentistry provides peace of mind, allowing you to receive the dental care you need to maintain good oral health without anxiety.

Sleep Dentistry FAQs

In sleep dentistry, dental treatment is provided to you while you are under sedation. This allows you to fall into a state of deep relaxation or drift off to ‘sleep’  while your treatment is completed with minimal discomfort.

If you are anxious about undergoing treatment, sleep dentistry gives you peace of mind to get the treatment you need to get your dental health back on track. You may even find you have no memory of any part of the treatment as you have been in such a state of deep relaxation.

General anaesthesia brings relaxation to the body’s nerve systems, so that patients don’t experience pain while they are sedated.

At Shire Smiles, we use a registered medical anaesthetist and anaesthetic nurse to ensure your safety. Before your treatment, you will have an extensive consultation with the anaesthetist to determine whether sleep dentistry is right for you.

Sedation is the use of a type of medication that helps you feel calm or go to sleep.

At Shire Smiles, we use IV sedation delivered by expert anaesthetists to ensure your safety and let you comfortably undergo dental treatment.

This advanced sedation technique (also known as sleep dentistry) significantly reduces dental anxiety and makes dental treatment a comfortable experience for you.

When you have dentist sedation in Miranda, at Shire Smiles, it’s administered through an intravenous (IV) drip. You will experience a state of deep calm and relaxation, and may even drift off into a light sleep. You are still conscious as you will be able to respond to questions from your dentist.

When you awaken, you may find you have no memory of the procedure being performed – a pleasant find for many patients who are nervous or anxious about their treatment.

No. Sedation may make you a little drowsy for the rest of the day, so don’t operate any heavy machinery or drive for 24 hours after your treatment.  It’s best to make sure you have a friend or family member take you home after being sedated.

No, you won’t feel any discomfort. With IV sedation, you most likely won’t even remember your treatment after you wake up.

After IV sedation is administered, you will either drift off into a state of deep relaxation, or into a light sleep. Once your treatment is finished, you will be woken up gently.

If you feel nervous or uncomfortable about having dental treatment performed, it can hold you back from having treatment that will get your oral health on track.

For some people, twilight sedation is the perfect solution to have their treatment completed with minimal discomfort or anxiety. Wondering ‘how much is sleep dentistry’? Ask one of our friendly staff about sleep dentistry in Miranda when you book your treatment. They’ll provide the costs and answer any questions you might have about twilight sedation.
